I'm not a fan of municipal water, especially when it comes from the Great Lakes, which are seriously contaminated with industrial and human wastes. On our organic farm, we've drunk the water from our shallow well for many years, after having it tested for 150 common ag and bio contaminants. But the water started smelling and staining recently. We had it re-tested, and have a high coliform count (>200), perhaps due to an extra-rainy summer. So we installed one of these; and it's doing a great job.
I gave it only four stars because I should have bought the PLUS unit, which has some extra feedback info -- but didn't realize the advantages. These extra bells and whistles will keep you apprised of the status of your water (and the device) better than the basic unit. My bad. But, hey, the smell is gone. (it must have been powerful, to get past our huge charcoal filter, for which I had recently replaced the carbon particles!) Good appliance. ~eric.
ps: be sure to add extra valves so you can isolate the device for easier cleaning of the glass barrier tube. And don't get confused by the O-rings in the box. They are spares, and don't need to be installed yet. |
